Protecting The Malaysian Giant Turtle

Image
Protecting The Malaysian Giant Turtle The Malaysian Giant Turtle is native to Southeast Asia, specifically found in Malaysia and Indonesia. It’s a mid-level predator in the food chain, which means it is both a predator and prey. As an omnivore, it feeds on a variety of plant and animal matter, including fruits, leaves, aquatic plants, insects, and small fish. They are also known to scavenge on dead animals and carrion. Their predators are also their prey. Also, it is critically endangered and is slowly on the decline with an unknown amount of them left, and the last law in 1999 made it illegal to hunt them in the wild. Unfortunately, that hasn’t stopped poachers. Within Malaysia, they are found in the Borneo region, which includes the states of Sabah and Sarawak. They primarily inhabit large rivers, such as t...

Outside for a Walk

Image
I went on a Hike with my brother and my dog Skippy to some trail my brother told me he knew of. I decided why not because it was a day where I had nothing going on, where he took me was beautiful. When we got there I noticed that Skippy was very excited to be on a walk with family. We were walking around for about an hour and during the time that we were there it both rained and snowed which I found interesting. The trail we walked on was uphill following an old, abandoned  road with the river following along the whole way up. Once we got up to the top of the trail, my brother told me to take a picture of the trail and sky because of how beautiful it was.   Skippy enjoyed the sound of the river and kept going over to inspect what bugs, sticks, and other things that caught his attention.   I enjoyed going out and doing this because I rarely get to go out and appreciate time like this not only with my friends, but with my pet as well. On the way back, I took a picture of th...

Recycling and Soil

Image
Image from Science in the Classroom People all over the world have a misconception on how recycling actually works, me included. Until I listened to and read a podcast called Recycling! Is it BS? In the episode, Kendra a climate journalist and the host Alex, they discuss the science to help listeners understand common misconceptions. They start by separating the difference between recycling as a waste issue and a climate issue. Yes, it’s waste, however, recycling things properly reduces greenhouse gases than just creating more. The common individual in society might think they’re going good by putting their plastics in the blue bins and they’re doing a good job, however everyone needs to keep it up because if one person puts a greasy pizza box in the bin then they ruin it for everyone. What is actually causing more issues than everyone in society is big aluminum manufacturers creating something called Virgin Aluminum, its not recyclable and is so energy intensive that regular re...

Nature Picture With Nice Memory

Image
Golden sunrize on the White River , in winter, in Bethel Vermont from the new bridge. The second imagine I took myself.    These places I enjoy going because I like listening to the water. The first image is a stock photo I found online but the second photo is located in New Hampshire. It's on the running trail behind the college and it's all the way past the athletic field. When I was a kid in middle school my friends and I went here to this bridge and one of my friends decided to hang off of it. He fell and broke his ankle and we had to carry him to the car and drove him to the hospital. It was stupid to let him do it but it's very funny now looking back.
